ATLANTA, GA — Lidl, a Germany-based grocery store with more than 10 locations in Georgia, will raise the starting pay for all metro Atlanta hourly employees to $15 an hour beginning Feb. 8, the grocer announced in a press release Jan. 5. Lidl's new starting wage is more than double the federal and state minimum wage of $7.25 and $5.15 per hour respectively, the release said. The current starting wage for hourly employees in metro Atlanta is $12.50 an hour. "Lidl is committed to offering our team members a market-leading wage and benefits package and we are proud to raise the bar in Atlanta again to this effect," said Tiffany A. Irving, director of human resources at Lidl U.S., in the release. "Everywhere we operate, Lidl works to continuously improve the structures that support our team because we know that our team supports our communities. Raising the starting wage to $15/hour across the Atlanta area is consistent with our approach, appropriate for the region and right for our growing team." Since 2019, Lidl has opened 13 new stores in the metro region, employing about 350 people, according to the release. Lidl also recently announced plans to invest $100 million in a new regional headquarters and distribution center in Covington.
