BIRMINGHAM, AL — Just days after testing positive for COVID-19, Birmingham mayor Randall Woodfin was hospitalized Monday night with pneumonia. "Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin was admitted to a hospital tonight to address symptoms connected to COVID pneumonia, according to his doctor," the mayor's office said in a statement. "Mayor Woodfin said he is receiving excellent care and is resting comfortably. He remains in good spirits and thanks everyone for their well wishes." Woodfin tested positive for the virus Wednesday, as the mayor made the announcement via social media. COVID-19 has made its way to my doorstep. I've tested positive but my symptoms are currently mild. Remember, everyone – COVID is real. COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County have been staggering over the last two months, and as January is just a week old, the county has already reported 25 COVID-19 deaths. Over the last two weeks, the county more than 4,300 new COVID-19 cases, an average of 624 new cases per day.
