Description
National Philanthropy Day is a special day set aside on the fifteenth of November. The purpose of this day is to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy—and those people active in the philanthropic community—to the enrichment of our world. We invite you to support GSAFP’s in-person NPD on November 9, 2022, 12-1:30 pm with our theme, “Change the World with a Giving Heart!”. This event celebrates GSAFP's fifth birthday as a chapter and fundraising professionals who benefit our Clark, Greene, and Champaign communities. This impact is meaningful not only to the charities’ constituents but also to many businesses who support nonprofits via donating, volunteering, and referring for valuable services. GSAFP is pleased to honor three community fundraisers: 1) Peg Foley, JD, MBA, professional fundraiser, community leader, supporter of many nonprofits, and resident of Springfield. Peg will be awarded “Outstanding Fundraiser”! 2) Groceryland, addressed the food desert due to the closing of Krogers in Southern Springfield. Company leaders will accept the “Outstanding Business” award! 3) Community Health Foundation, which plays a unique role in the regional healthcare delivery system, assuring the availability of reproductive health services in the community and providing educational and specialty health services. As the Executive Director, Joy Rogers will accept the “Outstanding Foundation” award! ABOUT GROCERYLAND The recent opening of Groceryland brought new jobs and affordable food to an area o Springfield that' had been considered a food desert for a few years. The $2 million dollar project came to fruition thanks to several investors and community leaders, including Springfield resident, Dr. Vipul Patel. Since its opening, Dr. Patel and his partners have pledge to donate the first year's revenue to further the progress being made in the south side of the city. The plan from all profits includes providing assistance to its employees, high school students going to college, local food pantries, and religious organizations. “Our intent in opening Groceryland was to fill a gap and meet a need that was evident within our community. Now that we have established this resource, we quickly realize that there is much more work to be done. We are now seeing that opening a grocery store is just the beginning,” said Patel. ABOUT COMMUNITY HEALTH FOUNDATION & JOY ROGERS: The mission of the Community Health Foundation (CHF) is to preserve reproductive services, to promote health and wellness, and to advocate for quality healthcare through grant-making and education in Clark and Champaign Counties. Its vision is healthy families; healthy community; better lives by working together. CHF’s legal name is Community Hospital Health Services Foundation; it is the last entity of Community Hospital and a 50% corporate owner of Community Mercy Health Partners. CHF’s healthcare pavilion adjacent to Springfield Regional Medical Center enables CHF to provide reproductive services and houses its business office. This year, CHF grant funding exceeds $845,000 and is focused on funding projects and programs which support the CHIP, the community health improvement plan, health equity and inclusion, the dental clinic at Rocking Horse Community Health Center, and responsive grant and mini-grant requests focused on health and wellness. In addition to its grant-making and clinical role, CHF has two initiatives. They are the Clark County Oral Health Coalition whose goal is to improve the oral health of our community via access, education, and policy, and CHF’s new initiative, H.E.A.L., which supports and promotes healthy eating and active living. CHF also produces the Health Resource Guide for Clark and Champaign Counties, a guide to local resources offering health and daily living needs as well as an annual health expo and Break for Health panel sessions focused on various health topics. Joy A. Rogers has served as executive director of the Community Health Foundation (CHF) since April of 2012. Early in her tenure, the CHF Board of Trustees decided to become a funder of health and wellness programs in our community, in addition to the organization’s clinical role and educational programs and services. Prior to CHF, Ms. Rogers worked for Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services in Dayton for 18 years, first as the Bone Marrow Donor Program Manager and then becoming the first fundraiser for the organization.
