Laurie Lico Albanese joins us to introduce her new novel, HESTER, a vivid reimagining of the backstory of the Scarlet Letter, and a journey into the enduring legacy of New England's witchcraft trials. Who was Hester Prynne? In HESTER, Laurie creates Isobel, a gifted young needleworker with secrets, who is forced to leave London with her apothecary husband, who goes back to sea and abandons her. She finds herself drawn to Nat Hawthorne, an aspiring young writer, and acts as his muse... or his enchantress. Laurie spent years researching Nathaniel Hawthorne's early career and the history of Salem during and after the infamous witch trials, and we can't wait to hear all about it. Laurie will discuss HESTER, answer audience questions and sign books. We will have copies of HESTER for sale at the event along with soft drinks, beer and wine.
