Description

Kids Aikido and Martial Arts classes are being offered at the Long Island Aikikai! https://www.liaikikai.com/childrens-aikido/ Benefits of Aikido and Martial Arts for Kids Improve Health and Fitness – Creating a lasting love for exercise that improves fitness level is important for healthy physical habits. This Aikido children’s program combines aerobics, calisthenics, tumbling, and swordplay (safely!) into one curriculum through games and technical practice that stimulates the joy of play and skill development. Nurture Self-Confidence and Personal Discipline – Personal discipline and self-confidence walk hand in hand, and this Aikido kid’s program is tailored to nurturing both of these qualities. There is a distinct and special type of self confidence that comes from knowing how to control one’s body, reaching goals and milestones, and emotional discipline in the face of challenges (and rising to meet them!) Develop Communication and Conflict Resolution Skills – as/more important than physical self defense skills, modeling healthy communication and resolution skills is a lifelong gift to children of all ages. This program utilizes Aikido’s cooperative practice and play to apply those principles in every day life. Introduction to Japanese Martial Arts Culture – Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art and has many elements of the culture woven into class. Children will learn tidbits of Japan and some language, and exposure to different cultures help broaden their understanding and acceptance of different people. Have Fun and Make New Friends! – Students will be in a class of their peers and age group, working on cooperative practice and activities that promote teamwork, leading to better social skills, problem solving in a group environment, and make lifelong friends and memories. Curriculum Overview Please take a look at the curriculum overview to see if it is suitable for your child. It was developed with fostering the benefits in the section above in mind.
