Description

Clean Ocean Access is hosting a workshop to train community scientists on how to collect data on their household waste. This data will be used to measure the impact of our Healthy Soils Healthy Seas RI initiative and in conversations regarding waste management policy change. Waste data is especially important to Rhode Islanders with our impending Central Landfill closure scheduled for 2040. Waste diversion through recycling, composting, and using less single-use items that are destined for the landfill is one way community members can help prolong the life of our landfill. It is required to be actively composting during your 3 month time commitment as a community scientist. Composting can be done many ways including a vermiculture bin, a backyard system, or a curbside pick-up service. You will receive a certificate of completion and a COA merch item after 3 months of consistent weekly data submissions. Please contact HSHSRI program coordinator, Sarah Lavallee, with any questions.
