This class will cover: - Installing a package of honey bees - Signs of natural colony growth - Indicators of a healthy hive - Equipment needed to conduct a colony inspection - How to perform a colony inspection - Biggest threats to honey bee colonies - Varroa testing - Record keeping - Best and worst beekeeping practices - Includes a honey bee frame assessment exercise This class is for those who have either taken the introduction to beekeeping class, have managed honey bees in the past, or have a basic knowledge of honey bee biology, hive equipment and functions. Great to enhance your beekeeping skills. University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is an outreach arm of the University that extends unbiased, research-based knowledge to local communities. Educational programs and projects are developed based on local needs in partnership with other agencies and volunteers. The Research Center and Demonstration Orchard is part of Southern Nevada Extension.
