DETROIT — A man died Monday morning after he was struck by a car on Interstate 94 in Detroit, Michigan State Police said. State troopers said the man was hit by a vehicle on the freeway near Gratiot Avenue at 1:20 a.m. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with police, troopers said. Before the man was struck by the vehicle, state troopers said he was driving recklessly, and ran off the roadway and overturned on Interstate 94 near Harper Avenue. A woman and children were also in the car, police said. After the crash, the man took the children in the car and put them into another vehicle, police said. He then ran away from the scene, police said. Police found the woman in the overturned car with a serious head injury and took her to the hospital, officials said. Police also found the children and said they were not injured in the crash. Officials did not say why the man was running across the freeway, other than he was running away from the crash. Anyone with information about the family involved in this investigation or the initial crash was asked to call Michigan State Police at 734-287-5000.
