WOBURN, MA — Marilyn Petitto Devaney led challenger Mara Dolan in the race for the Democratic nomination to represent District Three on the Governor's Council as of 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday with just over 65% of votes counted across the district, according to the Associated Press. The lead was narrow, however, with Petitto Devaney up 50.4% to Dolan's 49.6%. The Governor's Council race was the only local contest on either the Democratic or Republican ballots in Woburn this year, pitting incumbent Petitto Devaney against the challenger, Dolan. The Governor's Council, which handles duties including reviewing the governor's judicial appointments, includes representatives from eight district's across the state. District Three includes Woburn and several other communities primarily in Middlesex County. Petitto Devaney has represented the district for more than 20 years. Dolan, a public defender, is looking to unseat her. There are no candidates on the Republican ballot in the council's District Three, leaving the winner of today's Democratic primary poised to win a seat on the council later this year. Though Woburn voters cast their ballots in the Governor's Council race, the city remained one of several municipalities across the state that had not published unofficial results as of early Wednesday morning. Outside of local races, contested statewide Democratic races in this week's election included battles for Attorney General, Auditor, Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State. There were also contested Republican races for Governor and Lieutenant Governor. Democratic Attorney General and Gubernatorial Candidate Maura Healey technically had a primary opponent on the ballot in Sonia Chang-Diaz. Chang-Diaz dropped out of the race earlier this year, though, leaving Healey effectively unopposed. The AP called the Democratic governor's race in favor of Healey shortly after polls closed on Tuesday. The AP then called the Republican race in favor of Geoff Diehl later on Tuesday night, with Diehl edging out competitor Chris Doughty to set up a general election race with Healey. William Galvin won the Democratic Secretary of State race to face Republican Rayla Campbell in the general election in November, the AP said. Andrea Campbell then emerged as the declared winner in the Democratic Attorney General race, according to the AP. She will face James McMahon, III in November. declared the winner of a three-way race for the Democratic Lieutenant Governor nomination. That sets her up to face either Leah Allen or Kate Campanale, who participated in a Republican Lieutenant Governor race that remained uncalled as of midnight. Allen led 51.7% to 48.3% at that time, according to the AP. Diana DiZoglio and Chris Dempsey were still waiting for results in their race for the Democratic State Auditor nomination as of midnight. That race remained uncalled, with DiZoglio leading Dempsey 54% to 46%. The winner of the Democratic Auditor race will face Anthony Amore in the general election.
