Bend post office theft

Just recently, I sent a valuable package via the 4th St post office. My tracking number indicated it left the post office but it was never received at the next location (Portland has been the processing center for over a decade). This seems like theft in Bend or Portland. Have you experienced this with your shipment? Any suggestions other than filing a claim?
