FUEL HER BREAKTHROUGHS - FUND HER DISCOVERIES - SUPPORTING WOMEN-LED RESEARCH IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER Women bring diverse and unique perspectives to cancer research, making invaluable contributions and discoveries. However, women are continuously underrepresented in research leadership. We want to change that. As a program of the American Cancer Society - a top supporter of women in cancer research - we can sustain the pipeline of talent and engage those in the field to help impact the number of women in leadership roles. But we need your help to do it. FALL FEST FUNDRAISER!! JOIN US FOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY “RESEARCHERS” FUNDRAISER Thursday, September 29, 2022 (5:30 – 9:30 PM) at Burntwood Tavern - Brecksville, OH $50.00/person - (Fees not included in Ticket Price) Includes Prime Rib & Chicken Milanese Dinner with Crispy Yukon Potatoes, Asparagus, Salad & Variety of Homemade Desserts!! (Cash Bar) Gift Basket Raffle & 25-25/50 Raffle & Fun!! As a ACS ResearcHERS Ambassador, here's my story... “The unique perspective of women remains a powerful and growing force in cancer research” (1). I believe that women scientists can push the boundaries of what’s possible in the fight against cancer. Over 25 years ago, I entered the healthcare industry as a young female research scientist working at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. I advanced into senior level positions, and most recently held an executive role at Bayer Healthcare. As I progressed through my career, many times I found myself to be the only female executive at the table. It felt like the team could have achieved greater innovation and group performance with increased gender diversity in the decision-making. Studies have indicated this as well, that groups with more diverse representation and unique perspectives are more productive and successful (2). Today, female scientists remain underrepresented in research leadership roles, high-profile scientific journals, and tend to receive smaller research grants. While women represent 33.3% of all researchers, only 12% of members of national science academies are women. (3) However, by bolstering the careers and sustaining the pipeline of female researchers, we can help to strengthen the field of cancer research (4). Every year, ten million people die from cancer. “It is the cause of every sixth death” (5). My father was one of them. It was the hardest moment of my life watching him, despite looking healthy at 67, pass away within months of being diagnosed with cancer. My hope is that by supporting ResearcHERS, we can prevent a future child from having to watch their parent pass away as I did. When you donate to ResearcHERS, you're helping to build a future where a woman healthcare leader is one of many - not one of a few - in the fight against cancer! Will you join us and be so kind as to make a donation?
