Description

When abortion was illegal in Illinois in the 1960s and early 1970s, an underground network of women in Chicago stepped up to help women in need. The Jane Collective provided low-cost and free abortions to an estimated 11,000 women. As Illinois becomes the one of the few abortion sanctuaries in the Midwest in the aftermath of Roe v. Wade's reversal, the work of the so-called "Janes" proves more relevant than ever. Join us in Holstein Park for an outdoor event for reproductive rights featuring a documentary screening of "The Janes." The evening will kick off with a discussion with former members of The Jane Collective, along with a producer of the film and other reproductive rights organizations. You'll also hear from local reproductive health providers who will speak to the importance of their work in a post-Roe era. The program will begin at 7, with the movie starting at 7:45. Show up early to grab your spot and learn how you can help local reproductive rights nonprofits. The event will be held outdoors on the Holstein Park Field, so bring your own chairs, blankets and food! The screening is free. If you are looking for some places to support during this critical time, here are a few organizations to consider: The Pink House Fund and the Chicago Abortion Fund. Disclaimer: This movie tackles topics that may not be appropriate for all ages.
