-The border with Mexico is about 1700 miles long; most of that border land is privately owned. The gov't would have to acquire that land at fair market value. Anyone who didn't want to sell COULD be sued, to get the land under Eminent Domain; more court costs. - Most of the border is pretty rough, with sagebrush, gullies, small canyons, dunes, etc. You can't drive the heavy machinery needed to build a wall over that. Roads would have to be built. - A wall that big requires LOTS of materiel. A foreman can't tell one of his workers to take the pickup truck, go to Home Depot, and bring back a million bags of cement. Plants to produce the cement, re-bar, etc. would have to be built. - This would be a pretty big, long project. You can't keep a work force if the workers have to drive fifty, sixty miles to the construction sites, back and forth, each workday. Camps with living quarters, food and water service, recreational and medical facilities would have to be built. With the heat down there, air conditioning would be needed. I'm not a construction expert like Donald, but it seems to me that all this would be pretty damned expensive. Regardless of the price tag, here's the really fun part: 90% of illegal immigrants come in LEGALLY, on student visas, work visas, tourist visas, and probably several other visas. They become ILlegal when they don't return home when they're supposed to (e.g. at the end of the semester). Even after the wall is built, it wouldn't keep ALL of those 10% out. Building a 30 foot wall would only create a market for 31 foot ladders. Also, there have been several picture posted, showing holes in the FENCE made with a "saws-all", or where the wind has blown the fence over. I'm sure you'd be tickled pink if your doctor told you "Good news! You're broke, and you've suffered a lot, but we got almost all of 10% of your cancer." As for the drug cartels, do you think they'll just say "Oh, shit! We're out of business'? No, they'll go up the Pacifc OR Atlantic coast, or the Gulf of Mexico, to a secluded spot to gain entry. Maybe all the way to thousands of miles of unguarded border with Canada. As pointed out, they make millions; it would be worth the additional effort. Yeah, The Wall.
