Description

The Village of Sharon Springs has been famous for years for its mineral springs. Its sulphur waters were well known and much used by the Indians who brought their sick long distances to the sulphur springs, and though the Indians made only the simplest use of it, the springs later became a fad, worshipped with devotion and affection for its many cures. Sharon Springs has five different types of mineral waters. White Sulphur, Blue Sulphur, the Magnesia and the Chalybeate Springs, together with a Blue Stone Springs, popularly called the Eye Wash Spring, made Sharon Springs world famous. Sharon Springs, NY is picturesquely located in the basin of a beautiful valley, a few miles south of the Mohawk River, and fifty-five miles from Albany. Sharon Springs, with its climate, hygienic surroundings, unrivalled Springs, baths, Sanatoriums, hotels, rooming and boarding houses, and the proximity to the large cities, offered to the public a summer and winter health resort, unsurpassed in the United States. The Sharon Historical Society is offering historical walking tours of Sharon Springs focusing on the many buildings, spas, hotels, boarding and rooming houses. The Sharon Springs walks will be held during the Sharon Springs Harvest Festival on September 17th and 18th at 11:00 AM and 1 PM each day.
