In Ikebana, the Japanese Art of flower arrangement, blossoms, branches, leaves, and stems find new life as materials for art making. Begin with a brief history and demonstration of the art. Then, make your own Ikebana arrangements to take home. Presented by Sue Smith with the Sogetsu School, Ikebana Dallas. All materials provided.
Adults 18 and up.
Sue Smith began her study of Ikebana in the late 1970s and has been a member of Ikebana International in Dallas since 1986. She is a member of the Sogetsu Teachers Association and owner/instructor of Ikebana Creations.
Sue has held many board positions in the two Dallas-area Ikebana organizations, including several terms as president of both organizations. She demonstrates and exhibits throughout the year, with venues including the TAO Show at the Irving Arts Center, Dallas Arboretum, Trammel Crow Asian Art Museum, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Library, Eiseman center in Richardson, Japanese Garden Festivals, and many local garden clubs and groups, and regional festivals around DFW. Recently, Sue was part of an exhibit at the Nasher Sculpture Center, the A-Kon Convention, and a large exhibition at the Connemara Meadow in Allen, TX.
