A Modern Gentleman’s Kitchen Garden Welcome to The Kitchen Garden Classroom in Oak Park!Novice Gardener, looking for some hands-on guidance? Curious Hobbyist, exploring a possible passion? Experienced Gardener, interested in some new inspiration? Join Torrence O’Haire at “A Modern Gentleman’s Kitchen Garden” for a new series of garden classes, taught in the heart of his Oak Park backyard garden! The “Gentleman’s Kitchen Garden” is an ever-evolving space, with projects, problems, and new ideas constantly in motion - just like YOUR garden. These classes focus on practical, real-life examples and skills, using in-person observation as we wander the garden together. Regular attendees will see the garden change through the seasons, track successes and challenges, and gain a broad collection of skills, experiences, and ideas to activate in their own gardens, no matter the size, scope, or budget. Classes will join monthly for 60 to 75min, and cover a variety of topics with seasonal emphasis, with plenty of time for discussion and Q+A. The current schedule is as planned: September: Taking Autumn Cuttings, “The Summer in Review”, Sowing for Fall/Winter Veg, Collecting SeedsOctober: Planting Bulbs & Garlic, Dividing and Moving Perennials, Bringing in Your HouseplantsNovember: Mulching & Winter Protection, Your Autumn Compost Bin, Winter Seed-SowingClass Policies:-Class Fee is $25 per session - only prepaid reservations will have their seat guaranteed. -Cancellations will be accepted up to 24hrs before the class. -Late Cancellations will forfeit their class fee due to purchases and preparations required in class set-up. -Classes will begin promptly at 11am. -Class size is strictly limited due to space and quality for the participants. Prospective students are welcome to request a “wait list” spot. -Classes will be taught outdoors. The outdoors can be hot, cold, windy, rainy, buggy, etc. Please dress and plan accordingly - with the exception of severe weather, class will not be cancelled. -Students are welcome to bring questions, including visual aides. Any plant, animal, or soil material brought for review must be in a sealed plastic container to prevent cross-contamination. -Private group classes and consultations are available - please inquire!
