Like the Taoist concept, Yin is more internal, passive, cooling and downward. A yin flow would be slower and grounding where poses are passively held for longer. This allows release in the deep, dense (Yin) connective tissues and joints in the body. In contrast, Yang is more external, dynamic, and builds heat. Yang yoga is a more active practice. This works on the muscles and blood flow, building strength, stamina and flexibility. This flow has rhythm and repetition keeping breathe to movement. Combining both Yin and Yang elements in one class provides a balanced practice that builds strength, flexibility and mindfulness. A yin yang flow can have a powerful effect on energy levels.
