Description
I'm looking for someone to help me complete repairs and improvements on my home in Gorham for 10-20 hours per week through the end of October. Tasks will vary widely, including yard work like spreading mulch or raking, removing rust, stacking wood, etc. The work will sometimes be demanding, but I am not expecting anyone to break their back, just to work steadily and intelligently and keep their hands moving. I will pay extra (up to $25/hour) for tasks that require skilled labor such as carpentry or small engine repair; we will agree to any increases in your hourly rate ahead of time. Hours and days can be flexible, a few hours several times per week or a couple of full days, weekdays and/or weekends. I would like to have a working arrangement where both of us are satisfied at the end of each day. I prefer contact by phone. What I need and what I can offer: I need you to: 1) Be on time, show up when you say you will be here or alert me well ahead of time if our plans need to change. I will need to schedule tasks and have tools and materials prepared, so I’ll need to know when you’re coming. 2) Work 10-20 hours per week consistently. 3) Be ready to work and have appropriate clothing, shoes, etc. Bringing some basic tools or gloves will be helpful, but I will provide gloves if necessary. 4) Follow instructions, whether or not they make sense to you. I will be happy with work done according to my instructions even if it turns out that I was wrong :-) 5) Work steadily and with some thought as to how you can get each task done efficiently. 6) Be respectful. I will have an attitude of respect for anyone who agrees to work for me, and I expect the same. I welcome suggestions as to how things should be done, but if I decide otherwise, you will need to do things the way that I want them to be done without further discussion. 7) Leave any problems and drama at home. If you have addiction issues, relationship problems, or anger issues, they are your business. If you bring grief or arguments to me, it will not work out. I can offer you: 1) Payment in cash at the end of each day. 2) Honest pay for honest work. I expect only that you work steadily, not that you put in 100% effort every minute that you’re here. I will also pay bonuses for effort or skill that exceeds my expectations, for initiative or problem-solving that advances my timetable, or for being able to consistently complete tasks without my involvement. 3) Flexible hours and days. 4) The proper tools and instructions to complete each task, and safety equipment like safety glasses or sturdy gloves if needed or desired. 5) A good variety of work that should keep you from getting bored. 6) A nice location. I live in a 200-year-old farmhouse surrounded by mostly trees, with clean air and nice breezes. 7) Respect. I will ask you to do reasonable tasks in a reasonable amount of time and intend to speak to you as an equal, not a servant.
