Description

Bridget Tipton of Bellflower and J Annie Williams of Earthfolke are collaborating to bring a flower pressing workshop to Bell Tower Brewing! The class is on Thursday, September 29th from 6-8pm. This workshop is designed to celebrate the ephemeral beauty of flowers - are precious precisely because they are fleeting. We invite you to pause and take note as the seasons transition. Registration includes the following: Custom flower press made of solid pine. The press is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" which is the perfectly portable size to bring on travels or to press in nature. A brief history of flower pressing, step by step process to press in class, instruction on types of flowers suitable for pressing, and guidance on composition.Pre-pressed flowers will be provided for participants to work with to make a take-home item. This will also provide instruction on how to work with and mount your own flowers once they are dried. Flowers and herbs for pressing.Participants are invited to bring flowers, herbs or plants from their own gardens. Flowers are best pressed the day they are cut. If you forage, please follow good foraging practices: do not cut on private property without permission and take only one in every twenty wild flowers.A 16 oz beer or 1/2 off a cocktail, wine, or flight is included."It is so easy to muse on [the flower's] life when all the evidence is there for you to see. To imagine its first struggle through the surface of the soil, its growth into a mature plant somewhere far away, withstanding the vagaries of harsh weather and rain, and then to imagine again the arrival of the collector, cutting and pressing the flower and taking careful records." - from The Modern Flower Press; Capturing the Beauty of Nature by Amy Fielding and Melissa Richardson
