Participate in the important questions of our time. The Forum is a conversation and speaker series that brings curious people together to explore challenges and opportunities that affect human flourishing through the lens of the humanities and civic imagination. Please join us for the September 28, 2022 gathering of The Forum featuring Sharon Gaber, Ph.D., Chancellor, UNC Charlotte, on 'The Keys to the City.' We’ll explore the characteristics of great cities and what we can do to create a more vital and supportive city for all in Charlotte. We'll consider how place influences human flourishing and specific choices pressing on us in Charlotte today. What should we prioritize? What can each of us do? Dr. Gaber became the fifth chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in July 2020. Prior to her arrival at UNC Charlotte, Dr. Gaber served for five years as the president of the University of Toledo, where she was nationally recognized for her efforts to increase enrollment, improve graduation and retention rates, keep education affordable, increase research funding, improve connection to the surrounding metro region, and make the campus environment diverse and inclusive. Earlier in her career, she served as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Gaber has written numerous articles on regional and urban planning, public policy, and social dynamics that affect community flourishing. A native of Southern California, Dr. Gaber earned an A.B. in Economics and Urban Studies from Occidental College, an M.P.L. in Urban Planning from the University of Southern California, and a Ph.D. in City & Regional Planning from Cornell University. Connect. Consider. Ignite. The program runs from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM including time for conversation, connections, and Q&A. The Forum has a three-part structure: • First third: Participants connect and build relationships in small break-out groups prompted by a question; • Middle third: Participants hear a presentation by a featured speaker that ends with the speaker posing a question to participants to consider; • Final third: Participants discuss the question, igniting new ideas and interactions.
