Stray skinny dog lost - black pit/staffie - seen in Treme, New Orleans

Poor mama-dog … black pit/staffie mix [[ unable to load photos ]] Update: Sept 3 - still looking for her On Thursday evening I drove by this starving, terrified dog running around at 1447 N. Tonti St (past Esplanade and a few houses before Columbus St) and stopped. I approached with a sample bag of kibble and spread it on the driveway next to what seems like an unoccupied house. She barked and then retreated under the house, and when I slowly backed up from the food, she gingerly came over and inhaled it. Still scared she came back for the second round of food, and eventually started timidly wagging her tail as I spoke softly, and poured more mounds of kibble closer, and by the end I got close enough to stroke her head, such soul in those eyes. She’s clearly been a mama, and who knows if there are puppies. But look at her bones, she’s emaciated, probably nothing to suckle. If the SPCA picks her up, she’ll be euthanized because of her pitiful condition. She’s another lost sweet soul in search of a loving home. I’m going back there tomorrow to bring more food and fresh water [she didn’t drink any while I was there]. I have no idea if this was happenstance that she was at that location - but I’ll try see if I can find her. I asked a nearby neighbor and some passersby but they hadn’t noticed her before. I think I’d be able to get a leash on her if presented another chance (or by someone who also approached her gently and probably with food). I teared up at her sweet, timid trusting in what’s gotta be a fierce environment for her. Alas, I can’t take her in, and rescuer extraordinaire Brenda Laura of Big Easy Animal Rescue - BEAR (who’s my co-parent, of the dog variety) has seven (!) dogs at her house now. Sorry so long.
