Rain gardens, pollinator gardens, and other native plantings across the Polk County park system provide a wide variety of benefits for wildlife, water quality, education, and even social connections. At Easter Lake Park, a 3+ acre prairie planting on the southside of the park was planted to increase biodiversity, pollinator habitat, and to protect water quality in Easter Lake. This 3 year-old planting is getting well established, but is threatened by common weeds that have the ability to outcompete native vegetation. Join us on this Thursday morning to dive into the world of native plants to make a positive impact in this urban prairie. Volunteers will help to manage easy to pull weeds throughout the area that will promote a successful and diverse prairie. By attending this event you’ll broaden your native plant knowledge as it relates to conservation, maintenance, ecology, and how you can make a positive impact with native plants in our community. Please note, volunteers will be around seasonal allergens such as ragweed during this event.
