Description
Join babygami in partnership with REI Lincoln Park for our next community family meetup at Big Marsh on September 25 at 10 a.m. Please reserve a ticket for each person, so we can estimate the size of our group appropriately. Lastly, for safety, you must be the original person and have a matching ID that matches your eventbrite ticket. Kids do not need IDs. WHERE WILL WE ADVENTURE? Located on the southside of Chicago, Big Marsh is literally BIG. It boasts 297 acres of natural area and is operated by the Chicago Park District. The park includes nature trails, bike tracks, bird watching, and more. For safety, an email with the exact location of our meet up point will be sent once individuals sign up. WHY JOIN US? At babygami, our mission is to support diverse families to enjoy life outside! Did you know that only 15% of people of color enjoy the outdoors? Let's change that together, and all are welcome! Big Marsh Park is a small section of an incredible region. This region is unlike any other place in the world – it used to be one of the most ecologically diverse wetlands in North America. It could easily be that again thanks to multiple initiatives from community activists, the Chicago Parks District and other organizations dedicated to preserving and protecting this incredible wetland. REI Lincoln Park team members will take us on a mile walk through the trails, share the history of the leadership of Black women helped protect Big Marsh and the importance of protecting the land. WHAT TO WEAR? Wear comfortable, ideally athletic clothes, shoes, preferably long pants If you can, wear a hat (i.e. there is not a lot of access to shade), sunscreen, and bring sunglasses If you have them, we also recommend wearing hiking socks and boots, but this is not required WHAT TO BRING? Your IDYour family and kid(s)Light snacks, water bottle, and a bag or backpack to carry in itA carrier (i.e. whatever you will carry your child in whether that’s a stroller, bike, or baby carrier)Please resist the urge to pack too much because we'd love to leave nature as is and leave no traceWHO TO CONTACT? If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact the organizers via [email protected]. WHO ARE THE ORGANIZERS? Sana Jafri and Qudsia Khan are the founders and organizers for the babygami family meet up. You can follow us at @babygami_co on social media, and sign up for our newsletter at babygamico.com. We plan to create future events, so sign up now to stay in the know. Fun fact: Sana and Qudsia were part of the REI Path Ahead Ventures program, which seeks to diversify the outdoors.
