We are all at the mercy of the skills/talents of the other players we're playing with. I, personally,would rather play Russian Roulette with 3 (possibly 4) bullets, than to go to an open blues jam(cold,unrehearsed,don't know any players) and have to play the mindless 1-4-5 / 20 minute/pentatonic 'song'. Sure,if thats all I had,a backyard party or a prison band,I would possibly play once. But I,like You, hopefully,..need more. I know too much--my ear needs /deserves the reward...for real music. I know many great tunes with excellent changes, and know all parts and am glad to share. Fun parts that require a little practicing. Not so complex as some Steely Dan(although I have played several tunes live),more like blues/rock/funky/jazz think Robben Ford, Jimmy Herring,Jeff Beck,Guthrie Govan (guitarists) I could care less about playing "bar gigs",but if thats what ur into,let's do it.. Challenge-fun-passion !
