Please help with leopard gecko!!!!

I came upon a poor little leopard gecko in an unusual place and decided to bring the little fella home so it wouldn't suffer and die, little did i know that their habitat is not like a bearded dragons "which ive had in the past" and I dont have any of the items that it needs. I currently have him in a 10 gallon tank with a heating pad under the tank and a thing for him to hide in. I'm not in the position to take care of the dude and need someone who is experienced with them to please give him a home and hopefully nurse him back to health. He's pretty thin and his tail is pretty chunky and purple. I googled "purple tails" in leopard geckos and I hope what i read was wrong and it's a good outcome for him.
