Gonna Be Friends / The Stronks / Snacks at MidnightAges 21+ Gonna Be Friends The Stronks, Snacks at Midnight COVID-19 UPDATE: There are currently NO Covid restrictions for this show. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding. For any further questions, please email [email protected]. Gonna Be Friends Based out of Nashville, Gonna Be Friends is the spitting image of the iconic band to which they pay tribute, The White Stripes. The gear, outfits, banter, and body language. Every detail has been carefully accounted for, from the biggest hits to the deepest cuts, to bring you back to Detroit’s garage rock scene of the late 90’s. The Stronks are Portland's Tribute to The Strokes! The band was brought together in 2019 by a mutual love of the quintessential New York band The Strokes. They play the must-have hits alongside a variety of songs from throughout The Strokes' career, from Is This It to The New Abnormal. The group includes members from Portland-based bands Les Gold, New Body Electric, and Fir. Snacks at Midnight A midnight snack could be thought of in two categories: one as a pre-packaged quick bite, and the second as an improvised meal using ingredients that don’t traditionally go together, but boy does it taste and feel good. The latter is where Snacks at Midnight draws inspiration for their sound. With comparisons drawn to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hippo Campus, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, and even the Grateful Dead, it is clear the band pulls inspiration from many different sounding genres and artists. The band’s origin is a classic one. High school friends Rory Babin(songwriter, lead vox, and rhythm guitar), Giovani Covarrubias(lead guitar), and Nickolaus Harner(bass and vox) founded the band in their Sophomore year of high school. Once they figured out how to play their instruments, they eventually added William Babin(keys and vox) into the group their senior year. One year later they added their first consistent drummer, Gary Stivers. In 2020, the band released their debut album, Mom’s Proud, with this lineup. Mom’s Proud is the midnight snack mentioned previously: a combination of different sounds and genres set to Rory’s philosophic and storytelling lyrics. From Live Like This, a warm and folk-ey sounding song of having fun with friends and living in the moment, to Westward Bound, an aggressive rock about doing what one believes despite what authority figures may be saying, to Marooned, an emotional piano interlude on living with one’s mistakes, the band endeavored to craft a unique sound and feel within each song while delivering a message that they all believe in. In the spring 2021, the band parted ways with Gary Stivers and welcomed Andres Martinez into the group. With Martinez, Snacks recorded and released singles Better Than Ever and Stained Glass. Keeping the same mindset they held previously with Mom’s Proud, the band composed each song with great emphasis on creating something new and what felt honest. Heading into 2022, the Snacks boys are looking forward to making and releasing their second album, and doing a tour in Alaska in the summer.
