Description
When there’s meaningful work to be done, engaging and involving the diverse gifts of others yields a rich harvest. Creating a supportive and encouraging environment for volunteers to give their best requires an elastic structure that keeps its focus on the impact of their work. In this session, participants will learn the basics of sound volunteer resources management and see their own parish communities through the lens of this integrated network of tools, ideas and possibilities. Doors open at 9:00 am Registration from 9:00 am to 9:30 am (Please have your tickets with you for registration and payment.) Workshop from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm (Lunch will be provided.) An Introduction to your workshop facilitator Liz Adamshick. Liz has 40 years’ experience in the field of volunteer resources management, having directed volunteer engagement programs for Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus, Columbus AIDS Task Force, as well as in faith communities, high school, and university settings. She served as the president of the Campus Ministry Association at The Ohio State University, as well as the Director of Campus Ministry for St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church at OSU. During her tenure with the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus, she designed and implemented a volunteer inquiry-to-placement process that received international acclaim as a best practice and directed the organization’s response to volunteer interest following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She has facilitated numerous professional development training sessions and workshops at national and international conferences, including the American National Red Cross Volunteer Institute, ServeOhio (a state-wide annual conference on volunteerism for Ohio), and the South Carolina Association of Volunteer Administration. She has developed and facilitated courses for the Volunteer Management Training Program collaborative between Wright State University and United Way of the Greater Dayton Area and is also a regular presenter in the Ohio State University College of Social Work on issues of volunteerism as they relate to that field. A graduate of Walsh University in Canton, Ohio, with a degree in Theology and Philosophy, she has also completed graduate work in theology and youth ministry from both the University of Notre Dame and the Pontifical College Josephinum, and holds a Certificate in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies from Columbus State Community College. She is also a writer, author of the blog/website “Welcome to Naked Acres”, and lives in Mt. Vernon on 41 acres of paradise with the man of her dreams. She can rap the entire first act of Hamilton, all parts, and working feverishly on act II.
