Our work will vary based on the weather, but could include pruning, weeding, wheelbarrowing, planting, and harvesting.CitySoil is happy to to provide alternate tasks depending on physical comfort level.We’ll start the afternoon with a farm tour, stretching, and a project overview.We usually take a rest and water break half-way through the work party session, but folks are also encouraged to break on their own additionally as needed.We will learn about organic practices and how CitySoil transforms resources recycled from their waste system into compost.And…snacking! Fruit availability varies, but we look forward to sharing some apples during our time together.About CitySoil Farm: CitySoil Farm is an urban space devoted to environmental education and resource recycling to promote community food systems with imagination. CitySoil Farm is a 1.5 acre teaching farm and native tree nursery that showcases sustainable farming and accessible, local food. It is located at the King County Wastewater Treatment Plant in Renton. Once an unused area of the treatment plant’s grounds, it has been transformed into an urban teaching space devoted to environmental education to promote community food systems with imagination. CitySoil takes advantage of resources recycled from their waste system with recycled water and compost made from Loop biosolids and gives new life to the neglected soil’s ecosystem. The farm is managed in partnership between King County Wastewater Treatment Division, King Conservation District, DIRTCorps, and White Center Food Bank. Location / Directions: Official Address: 1200 Monster Road SW, Renton, WA 98057 Easiest access to farm: 1300 SW Grady Way The entrance is just west of the intersection of Oaksdale Ave. SW and SW Grady Way (north side of Grady way). There is a short road labeled “fire lane”. Drive to the end of the road to the closed gate. We will open the gate for you when you arrive. Signs may say, “authorized personnel only”, you as a volunteer are authorized to be here. Additional Information: Please bring a refillable water bottle, a hat, and sunscreen.Wear long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. We recommend wearing clothing that you are comfortable getting dirty and moving around in. Layers are a good idea – the weather can change quickly.If you have gardening gloves, please bring them.
