Description

Behold the beauty of gifting a cutting of that prize plant from your garden!Join the Organic Garden Club meeting this weekend and learn about the tradition of gifting seeds, cuttings, and bulbs. Please join the Greater Dallas Organic Garden club on Sunday, Sept 25th at North Haven Gardens when our speaker will be Dallas County Master Gardener Debbie Pochmann. Debbie will bring you heartwarming stories of plants that have survived hurricanes, moves, deaths, and the passage of decades. These botanical beasts hold places of honor by those who guard their survival and the memories that they generate. · Learn why an elderly gentleman was buried holding a pecan. · What’s so special about a daylily that the speaker’s brother grows? · What does Neil Sperry say about pass along plants? · Why are some plants more popular pass alongs than others? Debbie encourages those who come to her talk to bring cuttings, plants, or seeds to share with others. Add a label that tells why the plant is special to you and create your own pass along tradition! 2:30pm refreshments, 3:00pm meeting start. Our meetings are always free and open to the public. Bring a friend! The Greater Dallas Organic Gardening Club meets Jan-Sep in our Classroom. For more information, see www.gdogc.org. Debbie Pochmann is a Dallas County Master Gardener who loves growing fig trees and vegetables. She has worked as a photographer, a high school journalism teacher, and an attorney. Debbie's family moved from place to place as she was growing up in west Texas. None of their moving boxes ever included plants. Her nomadic youth has influenced her fascination with plants that have been shared with others over long distances and across generations. She loves the power of plants to connect gardeners to friends and relatives and to remind them of their experiences as young gardeners. Debbie has lived in Farmers Branch with her husband Laine for 35 years and with her 45 potted fig trees. NOTE: THIS EVENT IS INDOORS IN OUR CLASSROOM.
