Diagnosis can be challenging, because patients with early stages of NK may experience no symptoms and may therefore be diagnosed in later stages of the disease where epithelial damage has already begun. Current and emerging treatment options, when integrated optimally into management protocols, restore corneal sensitivity, and promote healing of the ocular surface, thus halting disease progression. In this CME activity, experts in the field review risk factors that contribute to the development of NK, discuss diagnostic and assessment techniques that improve the early detection and staging of disease, and evaluate the latest management and medical strategies for the optimal targeted treatment of patients with NK.
