During 2nd Saturdays at Japan House - Tours and Shopping, guests will learn the history of Japan House, discuss design elements and aesthetics, and become aware of the significant contributions of Japan House going back to the original house in the late 1960’s. Enjoy the beautiful Japanese gardens from the inside as you view the three Japanese tea rooms and historical photos in the general teaching area, as well as a rotating display of artifacts and treasures, some available for purchase. See the equipment and elements of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, as well as be introduced to other special events and workshops available to the public throughout the year. Guests are encouraged to shop a selection of handcrafted and imported items, as well as matcha tea and tea ceremony equipment after their tour ends. Cash, check and credit cards accepted. Guests will be asked to remove your shoes upon arrival, or to use provided shoe covers. You are encouraged to bring a fresh pair of socks to wear. Duration: 11am-12:30pm Cost: FREE ($5 Donation encouraged) For anyone who would like to experience a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, they are available on 2nd Saturdays at 1pm. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE TICKETS __________ FAQ's What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Japan House is located in the Arboretum at the University of Illinois at 2000 S. Lincoln Avenue between Kirby/Florida and Windsor Road. Parking is available in the lot to the north of Japan House (F-31 at St. Mary's Road and Lincoln) and to the south of Japan House (F-32 on Lincoln across from the Vet Med complex). Spaces are marked with a placard and must be paid with Mobile Meter (https://mobilemeter.us/) or Park Mobile (https://parkmobile.io/ ) phone apps, or by calling 217-207-3033. After 5pm and weekends all parking spaces are free. There are bike racks near both parking lots. The MTD Raven comes near Japan House on Lincoln Ave. The front door is located on the north side of the building. Please allow plenty of time to park and get to the front door so we may start on time. Is my registration/ticket transferrable? Yes, if space allows, you may transfer your registration to a different event. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? You do not have to bring your ticket. We will just need your name. The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay? The purchaser of the ticket can go to "My Tickets" and change the name to whomever will be attending. What if I want to purchase more than 10 tickets or schedule a special group? We are happy to work with you to schedule a group. Just call us at 217-244-9934. What is the refund policy? You registration is refundable if you contact us at 217-244-9934 prior to 24 hours before the date of your reservation. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
