International Literacy Day 2022 Theme: Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces Our Dearest Special Guest, A pleasant good day to you. We, the management and staff of My Space and Early Learning Time would like to specially invite you to our week-long series that supports international literacy starting 09/05/2022 to 09/10/2022. This event is proposed to give recognition on the importance of literacy in our local Lemon Grove Community and the world at large. According to Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director General, on the occasion of International Literacy Day, we need to reinvent a world of hope, literacy is more important than ever. On this International Day, I thus invite all those involved in education to redouble their investments and mobilize all their resources to unleash the potential of each individual in the service of a shared world." International Literacy Day is an international observance and it is celebrated each year on September 8. It was first declared by UNESCO on 26 October 1966 at the 14th session of UNESCO's General Conference. It was celebrated for the first time in 1967. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. Celebrations take place in several countries. This year and for the first time, we are aiming to make the Lemon Grove Community and all neighboring villages a part of the international literacy day. According to UNESCO, on an international scale, some 775 million lack minimum literacy skills; one in five adults are still not literate and two-thirds of them are women. 60.7 million children are out-of-school and many more attend irregularly or drop out. Please see attached a copy of the tentative plans for this event and we would appreciate your participation and any input or support that we can get from your office or profession that highlights the importance of literacy in our families and local communities.
