Description
Doors Open at 5:45PM. Event starts at 6:00PM. The Cliff Effect is one of the biggest yet hidden barriers keeping people stuck in poverty. While a pay raise or new job should be cause for celebration, too often for low-income households, earning more is a risky move that can result in having less. The Cliff Effect disincentivizes economic growth, a strong workforce, and job retention. Come learn about the Cliff Effect from Circles NWA and their Circle Leaders. Circles NWA is a poverty reduction initiative that helps low-income individuals and families pursue upward mobility from poverty. Circles flips the traditional mentorship model on its head by centering the leadership of those who have personally experienced poverty (our Circle Leaders) and connecting them with those from middle to upper income backgrounds (our Allies). Circles NWA is a chapter of the national Circles USA organization that has been working for the last seven years to conduct research and develop tools to better inform families, business owners, and policy makers about the Cliff Effect. Learn more about Circles NWA here: www.circlesnwa.org Panelists will include Circle Leaders who are part of the first cohort of the Circles NWA program and have personally experienced the Cliff Effect. Panelists include: Deborah Denton, Carmen Gonzalez, Kimberly Janssen, Patti Scott, and Shaletha Parks. Jeremiah Pickett, known professionally as Baang, will emcee the event. Baang is an educator, performer, fashion designer, organizer, and entrepreneur. He uses his music to convey positive messages and educate on social issues. BAANG is a lifestyle, a choice, and stands for: Believe. Aspire. Achieve. Now go. What is Circles NWA?
