Description
Seeking an Apiary Assistant for 1-2 days a week for the fall, as well as market days, typically on the weekends. This role is not a beekeeper role.
The Apiary Assistant supports the operations and maintenance of the honey room in Astoria, as well as events around the city. This role will perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to fulfilling online orders, cleaning/storing beekeeping equipment, organizing/maintaining the honey room, and bottling/labeling products. Depending on your interest and experience, we are happy to find areas to expand this role.
Responsibilities:
- Organizing and maintaining the honey room.
- Organizing and cleaning bee equipment.
- Supporting tasks as needed by our head beekeeper
- Picking and packing online orders.
- Prepping products for sale.
- Collaborate on special events such as markets or festivals
- Light data entry
Qualifications:
- Excited to learn about apiculture and a positive attitude
- Ready to work indoors/outdoors
- Able to lift up to 70lbs
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail
- Able to take direction and execute tasks in a timely manner
- Comfortable using technology (Google Suite, Slack, POS system)
- Can reliably commute to Astoria, Queens
- Must show proof of COVID vaccination
Preferred:
- Background in urban farming/apiculture
- Experience in the operation of a farm stand
- Access to a vehicle
