Description
Seven and Rosie are a proven breeding pair of 9th Generation UKC Purple Ribbon Redbone Coonhounds. Extremely intelligent, loyal, sensitive, and sweet, these are two of the best dogs you’ll ever meet. I have had the pleasure of raising them and several litters of beautiful, robust puppies over the last few years, but I recently lost my partner, my job, and my house, and must move back to Spain. Sadly, I cannot keep these two lovely creatures. Both of these dogs are 5 years old, and are in perfect health. They could reasonably be bred once per year for several more litters, depending on their health and environment. Seven and Rosie come from a long line of Redbones that were bred in Canada and Maine to handle bears and large cats – this lineage is quite different than a typical Redbone that you’d see in the South – this line is larger and hardier, but still able to keep pace with any game. I have hiked the Appalachian Trail with these dogs, with each of them carrying their own food and water, we have lived in tents and in the woods, traveled in campers and trucks, and lived on a beautiful off-grid property in Maine. You can take these dogs anywhere, but in the end, they love to be inside. Rosie and Seven have mostly lived indoors their entire lives and are accustomed to blankets and pillows. I don’t want these dogs to go to someone who will keep them outside, separate from their family. They won’t understand that, and it will affect them psychologically. You are welcome to safely and responsibly continue breeding them, but I don’t want them living in cages or on the end of chains. If you do not want to breed them, we can talk about a reduced fee and spaying or neutering. Rosie is a LOT of dog. She loves toys and playing fetch, and she also loves to carry around her blanket and show it to you. She’s a bit of a police dog in that she likes to police the behavior of other dogs and tell on them when she thinks they’re doing something naughty. Rosie could be trained for any purpose. She is a superior dam, producing exemplary litters of stunning Redbone pups. Seven is a very large goofball. He likes to lean against you, and take your hand gently in his mouth as he leads you to where he wants to go. He’s extremely sweet with people but sometimes doesn’t like other male dogs. He’s also a bit grumpy when you try to wake him or move him when he is sleeping – this is a trait that is common to Redbones. Give him time to wake up and get his big bones moving. Seven would sleep on the couch all day if you let him, but he’ll also charge through the woods all day if you take him out. He’s a champion snuggler is a joy to have around. These are my babies, and I don’t want to see them go. But life changed dramatically for me, and now I will do what I must. If you are interested in acquiring this pair, it’s important that you be able to provide a life for them that includes nights inside. No crates – they’ve never been in one. If you have children, great! Rosie and Seven love kids. If you have cats or small animals including chickens, it won’t work: these dogs are hunters: they will stalk and kill rabbits, chickens, ducks or geese, or any other small prey like animals. They have never been around a cat before, but I am certain they would try to kill one if they could get to it. They’re not mean in any way whatsoever, but please understand what this breed is all about before you contact me. Thank you, Russ
