Hello, I’m Sonja Newell. I am the owner of, and am, The Dessert Lady. I’ve been a professional pie maker for 7 years, but have been baking since I was a little girl. In that time, I’ve made hundreds of pies with all kinds of different crusts, fillings and toppings. I have been the baking instructor for Just Bakery, The Dessert Lady for Babes, and trained to make pies at Norske Nook, winning a Blue Ribbon for one of my pie recipes. I’ve even had the pleasure of experiencing ice cream making at our local creamery, Sassy Cow. I’m a Norwegian American from here in the Madison area, that comes from a long line of bakers, chefs and restaurant owners. I have a built in love of all things foodie related. Baking for “kids” of all ages has always come natural to me, and gives me “life”. I love to travel and take cooking and baking classes in other cities and countries to truly experience the local fare. I hope to one day tie together my love of food and travel, and sharing it with others. I’m happy to share my time and love of pie making with you, with hopes that you will take it and put your love into it, making your own.
Join me at my home kitchen in Badger Rock Community Center where we will create a flaky delicious pastry crust from scratch. We will make crusts and assemble a traditional double crust apple pie, and you even get to take yours home to bake (they freeze well if you choose to bake later too!). I will provide everything you need to create a fabulous pie. It wouldn’t be a Dessert Lady event without dessert, so we will also enjoy a slice of pie and coffee (water, tea or soda also provided). You will go home with your take and bake apple pie that YOU made, the recipe for my pastry crust and a keepsake apron.
