Description

The Launch Dayton Startup Week MedTech Showcase will highlight 10 local MedTech Startups that are preparing for or actively seeking investment. These startups have received funding from the MedTech Launch Fund for prototyping of their technology and/or are in the region's Entrepreneurial Services Provider program, managed by the Entrepreneurs' Center. Schedule Kickoff: 8:30 - 9:00 Coffee & Kickoff Track 1: 9:00 - 10:00 Proof of Concept / Pre-Seed Technologies Companies will pitch for 5-minutes each providing a high-level overview of the problem they are solving and their technology solution. After all of the pitches, the floor will open to Q&A with the participants. Michale Lakes of Medical Interface SolutionsMedical Interface Solutions’ smart phone AI STROKE DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION and CARE SYSTEM enables hospitals and EMS to rapidly diagnose acute strokes and initiate treatment faster than current protocols. Using the smart phone’s video capability, the STROKE DIAGNOSTIC APP digitally screens for clinical signs of stroke, linking pre-hospital responders to secure video communication to on-demand neurologist initiating stroke care orders prior to the patient’s arrival at the hospital. Only 39% of US citizens aware of all stroke warning symptoms and every 15-minute without treatment is significantly associated with higher mortality. The AI STROKE DIAGNOSTIC APP and CARE SYSTEM accelerates symptom detection and faster treatment to help reduce stroke disability and stroke mortality. Luis Estevez of AIMMAIMM is the inventor of proprietary (patent pending) technology that allows for the attachment of antimicrobial silver nanoparticles onto porous materials. AIMM is developing this technology to attach nano-silver onto the plastic fibers that make up the porous barrier that is found in traditional N95 respirator masks, making their surface self-disinfecting. This will enable hospital personnel to safely reuse their N95 masks instead of wasting excessive N95 masks or undergoing the cost and difficulty of cleaning them. Ryan Muhlenkamp of Horizon HealthcareHorizon Healthcare’s patent pending Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) lock, SAFE ACCESS™, helps hospitals facilitate a safe discharge of intravenous drug users with a PICC line in-place. SAFE ACCESS is a wireless locking/unlocking device, controlled only by clinicians, preventing self-injecting by the patient. Today, hospitals cannot discharge without a restrictive access device causing hospitals to prolong hospital stays and absorb significant unreimbursed care. Based on physician survey data and intravenous drug use prevalence in the United States, SAFE ACCESS would reduce 1.35 million patient’s length of stay by 30.2 average days while saving $23,354/patient totaling $31.5B in savings for healthcare and insurance providers annually. Tyler Nelson of NutrilabeNutrilabe is pioneering a process to rapidly identify patient specific microbial-derived nutrients that are essential components to accelerate wound closure, especially for patients suffering with chronic wounds. Chronic wounds cost the U.S. health system over $25 Billion a year with fragmented non-specific treatment options. Nutrilabe is provided a sample of the unique micro-environment of a patient’s wound and processes to evaluate the microbial flora and exudate fluid composition to determine the correct probiotic (“good bacteria”) formulation and deliver a personalized wound healing ointment within days to the patient. The matched probiotic enhanced ointment is a cost effective approach that accelerates wound closure and limits secondary toxic impacts induced by NSAIDS or other broad-spectrum medications and wound closure technologies on the market today. TBDTBDNetworking Break: 10:00 - 10:30 Track 2: 10:30 - 12:30 Seed/ Series A Companies Companies will provide a 15-minute investor pitch followed by 15-minutes of Q&A with that specific company. Mubin Syed of RAM MedicalRAM Medical Innovation’s M-Y Sheaths for accessing challenging anatomy offers new internationally patented technology that allows interventionalists (whether novice or expert) unparalleled navigability and stability for endovascular interventions. Today with current technology, 25%-30% of endovascular surgical procedures are significantly prolonged causing compromised outcomes because the target site for treatment cannot be reached due to difficult anatomy. Failure or delay of endovascular treatment, in cases of stroke and lower extremity peripheral arterial disease, can cause catastrophic outcomes like major disability from stroke, amputation, or death. The M-Y Sheath technology enables faster and safer access in cases of difficult anatomy through its unique design allowing clinicians to reduce surgical costs, improve outcomes, and most importantly, holds the promise to save limbs and lives. Mick Hopkins of True Concepts MedicalTrue Concepts Medical technologies are designed by clinicians for clinicians, with a focus on areas that have significant morbidity and mortality, such as sepsis and sudden cardiac arrest. D'VIA™ is the first and internationally patented 4-in-1 Dual Chamber Blood Collection System that prevents expensive false-positives, false-positives and process contamination by isolating pure, uncontaminated blood for accurate sepsis testing and diagnosis. Hospitals utilizing D'VIA can expect to reduce faulty testing results by over 85% saving a 300-bed hospital over $2.7M annually by reducing hospital length of stay, microbiology and pharmacy costs while improving patient outcomes. Pamela Boyd of Vitals MatterVitalsMatterTM is developing a cloud wellness application that integrates with a variety of wearable and medical devices to help Company Benefit Executives lower health care and absenteeism costs. Using our proprietary analytics, we empower employees to understand their health status, identify potential risks and make better choices. Employers benefit by reducing business disruption, containing costs, and realizing a return on their wellness investment. TBDNetworking Lunch: 12:30 - 1:30 Enjoy lunch from a local vendor and network the companies that pitched and others involved in the MedTech entrepreneurial ecosystem in Dayton. One-on-Ones: 1:30 - 4:30 Schedule one-on-one time with any of the participants that piched. A scheduling tool will be provided a few weeks out with additional information about each of the companies. Launch Dayton Startup Week Closing Party 4:30 - 7:00 Feel free to stick around and join our Closing Party in the historic Arcade Rotunda.
