Description

We strongly believe that struggling is NOT the birthright of those who are Black, Brown, and low-income! The US economy is deeply divided and inequitable. The median household wealth for Black and Latinx families is 12 times less than white households. And as the US population grows more diverse, economic inequality along racial lines will impact more and more Americans. By 2050, People of Color will represent half of America’s total population. Simultaneously, median household wealth for Black and Latinx families is expected to drop nearly to zero, which means half of the population will face significant structural barriers to economic opportunity and mobility—barriers that ultimately prevent them from fully participating in both the economy and democracy. This is profoundly unjust, considering that consumer spending drives 70 percent of US gross domestic product. It also stands to impede the country’s ability to compete in the global market. It is our goal to bring together members of our community for a half-day, in-person symposium where local and national thought leaders, experts and practitioners define wealth, and share effective wealth building strategies. We plan to curate conversations specifically focused in the areas of real estate development, financial planning, franchise ownership, mergers and acquisitions of small businesses. With support from Amazon, the symposium will conclude with a call to action that provides attendees with the opportunity to proactively engage with potential silent investors, learn more about credit building and register for a future appointment with a financial advisor.
