Description

The SUP Program welcomes you to a night celebrating our community! Whether you are a graduate of the program, a current student or community partner, join us to hear about the latest student research, meet the Alumni Council and Advisory Board and hear about our partnership with Fort Washington Forward. David Owens, the founding president, will share the community's vision that was first formalized through their partnership with an SUP studio course. Come learn about the next steps in this exciting partnership including a fall tour and spring studio class! Our keynote speaker, Mr. David Owens, is the first president of Fort Washington Forward, a 501c(3) non-profit organization based in Fort Washington, Maryland. Owens and the nine member board are tasked with leading the organization in the execution of its two-fold mission of attracting smart commercial development to the Fort Washington, Maryland community, and strengthening social connections and sustainability. Mr. Owens’ professional career includes six years active duty in the U.S. Navy, 17 years in broadcast journalism, teaching at the University of Maryland and Loyola Maryland University, and now he’s the owner of Visionary Media Productions, a digital media company that creates promotional content for both government and private clients. From 2001-2016 Dave Owens served as a reporter at various television stations around the country, including Washington, D.C. (WUSA9) from 2009-2016. Over his career he’s covered news, sports, and even major weather events. He is also a dedicated community servant. In addition to his work with Fort Washington Forward, Mr. Owens is also part of the National Capital Region Chapter of the Travis Manion Foundation. He has previously volunteered with the Men of Prince George’s County Public Schools, Friendly High School Academic Booster Club, and the Prince George’s County Committee for Fathers, Men and Boys. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and served as a Surface Warfare Officer. In six years active duty, Mr. Owens served two overseas deployments, one to the Persian Gulf. He also earned his master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Redlands in California.
