Description
Welcome to the Backyard Bash on Boston Common! We’re thrilled to welcome all Fierce Urgency of Now Festival attendees to a FREE Backyard Bash on Boston Common. This popup party near Parkman Bandstand will feature music from the DJ A Trike Called Funk; backyard games like cornhole, KanJam, Ladderball, Giant Connect 4 & Jenga, badminton, volleyball; and more for everyone to enjoy! Connect with your friends or meet new people in an entertaining and casual atmosphere. Take a break from the fun and enjoy free ice cream treats from Boston Ice Cream Truck. Water will be available for everyone from the Boston Water Commission truck. The Backyard Bash is hosted by Friends of the Public Garden and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. The Friends is a non-profit parks advocacy group focused on the renewal and care of downtown Boston’s three iconic greenspaces – the Boston Common, the Public Garden, and the Commonwealth Avenue Mall. Be sure to stop by our information table and learn more about why Boston Common is often referred to as “Boston’s Backyard.” The Friends and the Parks Department will have resources available to help you explore all three parks, whether you want to explore the nation’s first botanical garden, take in the majesty of the Shaw 54th Memorial while following the Black Heritage Trail, visit the Boston Women’s Memorial on a scenic jog, or simply enjoy these special urban greenspaces. And you won’t want to miss the chance to learn about the wonderful summer events and activities the Parks Department has planned throughout the summer. Learn more about our work and how you can get involved at friendsofthepublicgarden.org. This event is hosted by: Boston Parks & Rec. Dept. & Friends of the Public GardenABOUT FIERCE URGENCY OF NOW The Fierce Urgency of Now Festival brings together more than 1,000 diverse, young professionals of color and allies for 30+ transformative events. Organized by City Awake, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s young professional platform, this is the ultimate festival to build connections, advance careers, and ignite positive change. This festival is inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s. speech at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom where he described “the fierce urgency of now” — the pressing need for immediate action and lasting change in the face of racial injustice. Today and every day, we are answering this call to action to forge a more equitable, inclusive future for Greater Boston.
