The Richard A. Mayo Center for Asset Management at the UVA Darden School of Business invites you to register for the 15th annual University of Virginia Investing Conference (UVIC). This year, UVIC will explore investing in a world of rising interest rates and inflation during a time when global economies are slowing. We will focus attention on expectations for investors by providing an array of diverse, well-reasoned ideas and views on tackling this challenging investment environment. Program speakers will detail approaches and ideas for how investors might position themselves for success investing over the coming years. This year’s program includes the following sessions, among others: Elizabeth Burton, Fmr. Chief Investment Officer, Employees’ Retirement System of the State of Hawaii Topic: "Positioning Portfolios for the Future: An Asset Owner CIO Perspective" Moderated by Larry Kochard, Chief Investment Officer, Makena Capital Management As the CIO of the Employees’ Retirement System of the State of Hawaii (HIERS), Elizabeth Burton oversaw $19 billion in pension fund assets. Ms. Burton is on the Board of Directors of the Chartered Alternative Investment Association (CAIA), and prior to joining HIERS, she served as Managing Director of the Quantitative Strategies Group at the Maryland State Retirement Agency. In this role, Ms. Burton was responsible for the $4.5B Absolute Return Portfolio and for risk management oversight of the $55B Plan. Michael Howell, CEO, CrossBorder Capital Topic: "The Dynamic Impact of Global Liquidity on Markets" Moderated by Kinda Hachem, Morris Plan Associate Professor of Consumer Credit, UVA Darden Michael Howell is the CEO of CrossBorder Capital, a research and investment company that he founded in 1996. Previously he was Head of Research for Baring Securities and Research Director of Salomon Brothers Inc., the US investment bank. The liquidity methodology he pioneered monitors cross-border flows and Central Bank behavior across some 80 countries worldwide. Eswar Prasad, Tolani Senior Professor of Trade Policy and Professor of Economics, Cornell University Topic: "The Future of Money: How the Digital Revolution Is Transforming Currencies and Finance" Moderated by Pedro Matos, John G. Macfarlane Family Chair, Professor of Business Administration, and Academic Director of Richard A. Mayo Center for Asset Management Eswar Prasad is the Tolani Senior Professor of Trade Policy and Professor of Economics at Cornell University. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he holds the New Century Chair in International Economics, and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He was previously chief of the Financial Studies Division in the IMF’s Research Department and, before that, was the head of the IMF’s China Division.
