This month's topic is: Understanding the Educational Rights of Students with Disabilities: Tips and Tricks to Successfully Advocate for Students. Join us for an overview of the legal rights and assurances that children with disabilities are guaranteed under the IDEA and Rehabilitation Act. You will gain valuable insights and information about parents, co-parents, and guardians as educational decision-makers. Our featured guest speakers will highlight common pitfalls experienced by families while trying to secure appropriate services. Our Presenters Laura Henrie is the Legal Director at the Disability Law Center (DLC). Laura’s practice has focused on litigating employment discrimination cases, advocating for students with disabilities to receive equal educational opportunities, and leading complex litigation and policy efforts to support and expand community integration options for people with disabilities. Maya Violet Anderson is a staff attorney at the Disability Law Center who specializes in special education law. Her work primarily involves helping parents of students with disabilities in public schools to ensure that their children receive an appropriate education in the least restrictive environment, with a particular focus on school discipline, education access, and restraint and seclusion.
