Description
Looking for talented instrumentalists and harmony singers for a British Folk Rock Band to play the best of Fairport Convention, Pentangle, Fotheringay and other similar music. Also interested in Celtic; Irish & Scottish bands such as Planxty, Silly Wizard, Clannad, Altan and others who blend modern rock with traditional folk music.
Ideally, you should appreciate the energy of the Pogues and the sublety of Richard Thompson's From Galway to Graceland
Songs to start might include:
Percy's Song (Bob Dylan) - Fairport Convention;
Meet on the Ledge - Fairport Convention (recently redone by Greta van Fleet);
The Deserter - Fairport Convention
Light Flight - Pentangle;
John Barleycorn - Traffic;
Fisherman Song - Waterboys;
Dirty Old Town - Pogues;
Walking on the Wire - Richard and Linda Thompson
and a million others
Ultimately we'll get a collection of instruments including bass (electric and acoustic), fiddle, accordian, pipes, drums, guitars, bouzouki, mandolin, dulcimer or other variants.
Musicians who have a good ear and appreciate the classic ballads that change rhythm and morph into reels or dance tunes. [Like Planxty's Raggle Taggle Gypsy into Tabhair Dom Do Lamh; or Fairport Convention's Reynardine into Tam Lin; or Matty Groves & its ending.]
A mixture of ages and musicial perspectives would help shape the band into a diverse mixture of musical styles.
Located near Union County (Northern or Central NJ) - we'll figure out how to get past this Covid-Zoom nightmare.
