Melissa Ellis possesses a vocal style that is unmatched by any other and carries a power that packs one serious punch. With versatile maneuverings between her warm opulent tone and texture, reminiscent of classic jazz sirens, to her soulful delivery and distinctive growl of the blues, this "Southern Spitfire" has concocted an unforgettable signature blend of of music complimenting her southern charm and accent. A Josie Award Nominee for Jazz-Blues vocalist of 2022, Melissa has made it a point to max out this post-pandemic time after learning in 2020 that life can throw you curveballs. She released her first EP in over a decade, Melissa Ellis: Live In the House, which was recorded during her 2021 performance at Grinder House and features her original song “Dirty Little Secret”. She is the founder and organizer of the Upper-Cumberland’s “Women in Music” concert event at Grinder House featuring some of the top female singer-songwriters of the Upper-Cumberland/East Tennessee area. A grad student at Berklee College of Music, she is studying songwriting and Music Business with the long-term goal of creating an agency to assist artists with booking, branding, and management. Melissa is currently collaborating on a jazz project with “consummate piano virtuoso”, John Colianni who has toured with artists such as Mel Torme, Anita O’Day, Lionel Hampton, and Les Paul (just to name a few). Alongside music, Melissa is a published author, working on the release of her second book in the young adult horror series, Shadow Shifter, and is launching her lifestyle blog/brand/podcast SOUTHERN SPITFIRE. No family coattails to ride on and no name-dropping resume to rely upon, Melissa Ellis has created her rich career in music from the ground up with a healthy combination of her God-given gift, creativity, a bit of luck, and a long history of grit and boldness.
