***THE MEMORIAL WILL BE LIT FROM DUSK UNTIL 11:00 PM FOR ANYONE TO HONOR A LOVED ONE*** The last Sunday in September is set aside as a national day of honor and recognition designated as "Gold Star Family Day." On this day, we solemnly honor the memory of every lost servicemember from every branch of service and we humbly grieve with the families who have suffered the unimaginable loss of a loved one in service to our country. Gold Star Families deserve our utmost respect, admiration, and support for their tenacity and resilience, and for the work they do to preserve the memory of those who gave their lives to our Nation. There will be a brief ceremony just before dusk. Immediately following the ceremony, participants will be asked to light a luminary and place it next to the Gold Star Family Memorial, located outside the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home.
