On Saturday, September 17, 2022, Michael Birdsong, a Florida A&M University (FAMU), Public Health DrPH Candidate, will serve as a mental health check-in coordinator to basically gauge where Black men’s mindsets are, related to the trials and tribulations that have come about from recent traumatic events.
Recent events like the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, race-related mass shootings and the constant trials from police brutality have made it difficult to live life as a person of color and more specifically, a Black man.
Michael Birdsong is teaming up with the National Alliance of Mental Illness, the City of Tallahassee, We Are All We Need, and The Black Men's Health initiative to address and check-in on Black men’s mental health.
The audience for the Black Men’s Mental Health Check-In will be young Black men, ages 18-40.
We have also secured the support of Dr. Ken Fowler, to offer programming and resources for the check in.
After the first Black Men’s Mental Health Check-In, we are committed to continuing the outreach of this program by expanding into other minority neighborhoods, including South City and the Greater Bond Neighborhood.
For additional information or question concerning the event, please contact Michael Birdsong at [email protected] .
