Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Mike Mattison (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Scrapomatic) will speak about how the blues and the genres it engendered—rock & roll, R&B, hip hop—constitute a shared American heritage that changed the course of the twentieth century.
Mattison will identify, define, and perform the blues aesthetic, and illustrate how it functions musically and culturally as a community-building practice.
An incredibly talented performer, Mike will be singing examples from his talk accompanied by guitarist Dave Yoke (Scrapomatic, Susan Tedeschi Band, Dr. John).
This talk is hosted by School of the Arts with generous support from Michael and Andrea Stone as part of the semesterly Stone Visiting Artist Series.
