The first lines of the Woman King trailer state, "An evil is coming that threatens our kingdom, our freedom. But we have a weapon they are not prepared for." This seemingly prophetic few sentences sets the back drop for why we are hosting an advanced screening of The Woman King starring Viola Davis.
The screening is on 9/10/22. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the film begins promptly at 7 pm at the AMC Broadstreet 7 at Broad and Cecil B Moore. (1600 N Broad St. PHILADELPHIA, PA 19121). The film comes out on 9/16, so you'll see it a whole week early.
In addition to your movie ticket, Harriett's Bookshop is happy to gift a FREE signed copy of the book Finding Me by Viola Davis (and perhaps some other surprises).
An array of sister businesses/orgs are coming together to create a unified showing of sisterhood. This event and seats are first come, first serve. Please show grace as your sister attempts to run two bookshops while pulling this evening together with lightening speed.
As you may know, this is the first and only historical epic film with a Black woman lead—it’s about the Dahomey women of Benin. If we want more like this on the big screen, we will have to show out for this film.
That said, we can see the sisters coming out in full form to make this a very special evening.
