We will begin our morning with a beautiful and scenic drive through the Coastal Mountains before reaching the coastline. Our first stop takes us to a local hidden gem, Shortsands Beach, where we will walk through an old growth forest passing enormous trees several thousand years old. We will make our way down to the beach, where we will be met with a world class ocean view of towering cliffs, old growth logjams, stream estuaries and surfers catching waves. From here we will take a leisurely seaside stroll along the beach to a vibrant waterfall that descends into tidepools, where we will look for starfish, anemones, shore crabs, barnacles and other marine life. Along the way we may discuss native plants, animals, landscape topography and ecosystem functions in a natural and fluid manner. After enjoying Shortsands Beach, we will head a few minutes north to Cannon Beach and the famous Haystack Rock where guests will be free to roam this picturesque town and choose their own adventure. Cannon Beach is rich with local shops, restaurants and most importantly, saltwater taffy! Our day will conclude with a return journey through the Coastal Mountains to Portland, where we will say our goodbyes. This trip is designed for guests of all ages. Guests should bring comfortable walking shoes, however you may choose to do less walking along the beach if you prefer!
