Description

Together, we will create a unique moment giving rise to intense emotions for some and peaceful healing for others. Come find out what's in store for you. No previous experience or knowledge of music is required, but seasoned professionals will also find it intriguing and perhaps technically useful; keep reading. During the workshop, I will provide you with all the information you'll need. It's a group thing, so you don't have to sing by yourself. If you have a favorite pillow or blanket, you can certainly bring that. Oh, by the way, no thinking allowed during the chant 😃. I'll explain during the workshop. I learned improvisational chant from a member of the Opera Department at Utah State University in Logan, UT. We performed for an event in the tower of the (now) Wells Fargo building in Salt Lake. In July of this year, I participated in a workshop with Dr. Trineice Robinson of Princeton University where she helped us discover feeling the rhythms and risings and fallings of our voices, that we tend to do naturally, in preparation for improvisation in R&B and jazz. This workshop on improvisational chant is similar in that you are invited to let go of rigid musical rules, and just explore sounds and rhythms that you might use in your singing elsewhere. But you don't have to do anything other than just enjoy it. I recently gave this workshop at a retreat in Park City which was so rewarding for those who attended that I decided to make it available to others. ♫♫♫♫ I am a vocologist with 8 years experience training voices. I started performing in 2nd grade and have sung with the Utah Symphony, Utah Chamber Artists, Boston Pops, and on national and world-wide television broadcasts. For 7 years, I co-hosted "Cada Domingo" on 91.9 FM KPCW Park City. In English or Spanish, I currently teach singing and speech technique and sing with the Utah Opera as an alternate in the 22-23 season. In addition, I'm trained in transcendental meditation, mindfulness, and cognitive behavior techniques. ♫♫♫♫ Disclaimer: This event is a music workshop. This event is not therapy and does not seek to treat or cure any illness or ailment, but you just might feel real good afterward. Photo by Nico Smit on Unsplash
